Charles
Apologies for not replying sooner - I found myself in a car driving to Cornwall for a long w/e within hours of arriving back in the UK!
Chile was absolutely fantastic! I was going to drop you a line anyway to say thanks for putting together such an excellent schedule, and to assure you I will be encouraging all my friends to go to Chile ASAP and to use your
services to ensure a good trip...
Juan Catalan is the perfect driver -knowledgeable, charming and relaxed. He seemed really committed to ensuring I had an interesting time and that everything went smoothly. And indeed everything did, with the exception of getting lost in West Santiago's suburbs on the way back to the airport -
good job I allowed an extra hour or things might've been very tight.
Patagonia and the Salto Chico weretremendous - I made it to Glacier Grey
and a did a 20km trek up the French Valley the following day. Two days is not enough so I am glad I promised my wife I would take her there at some point in the future before I left the UK.
The Ruta del Vino was also interesting although I suppose if I had been a
little more organised I would have liked to fit in an extra vineyard - I went to MontGras & Bisquerrt. Amazingly I was the only guest in the hotel on my first night - talk about low season!
All in all a great trip and I look forward to returning to Chile in the future, if only to make use of the new roads around Santiago!
Best regards,
George

Hi Claudia,
I finally have a chance to email you. Thank you for all of the work you did organizing our trip. We had a great time. All of the hotels were very good. Hotel Lago Grey and Hotel Kimal were excellent. Hotel Orly was not good but not horrible, I would not go back to this hotel. Thanks for finding a rodeo for us to see. I was able to get some good photographs there.
The guide Jaime and driver Jose did an absolutely fantastic job while we were in Puerto Natales/Torres Del Paine. They took care of us every step of the way. They both knew what they were doing and we would highly recommend them to anyone traveling to Southern Chile.
Desert Adventures guide service was not the best. They seemed very disorganized. They forgot to pick us up at the airport (Thanks Claudia for the quick response in arranging and paying for a taxi). Then Desert Adventures did not send an English speaking guide for our first tour. They claimed that you had not requested an English guide. We were able to point out to them that their own paper work said "English Speaking Guide". The second day's tour started out with them picking up the wrong people in our private tour van. We were able to take a full bus to the first stop on the tour and switch vans and have the private guide service.
Overall we had a great trip and enjoyed Chile.
Thanks,
Bill and Lisa Swanson |

Hi Charles,
We have been home for a week but I've only just caught up at work. Pat and I wanted you to know how much we enjoyed ourselves. We loved Chile and all the arrangements you made were perfect. Its a big world so we usually go somewhere different every year but Chile may be the exception that breaks the rule. We were lucky with the weather everywhere, we had wonderful views of the volcanoes from Pucon and Puerto Varas, and the views in Torres del Paine were stunning. I did several hikes there including one up to the Mirador at the base of the towers and I was rewarded with a clear blue sky.
Here are a few of comments that may be of help.
The entrance fee to Torres del Paine has been increased from 10,000/person to 15,000/person in cash and they would not accept US dollars.
The roads in Torres del Paine must have been improved. I never needed to switch to 4-wheel drive even though I drove all over the park.
The Sheraton in Vina del Mar is the only hotel I would not recommend. The rooms are lovely, it has a great location and wonderful views but service there is poor and the buffet breakfast, in particular, was certainly not up to par. We were the first down to breakfast but the food had obviously been prepared long before and was close to inedible. Also, they were the only hotel with whom we had to argue and prove that we had paid in advance, despite the evidence of the voucher we gave them.
Please extend our thanks to Claudia for the attention to detail she clearly paid to all the arrangements she made for us.
All the best,
Bert

For my trip in February 2004 to Torres del Paine, Hotels Chile was by far the most helpful in planning where to stay. They were the most knowledgable, most capable, the easiest to deal with, and efficient and accurate in their work. I was at a loss for finding a place to stay in Torres del Paine until I contacted Charles Hallifax (HotelsChile.com's president - part of Experience Chile). Highly recommended. |
